Fun Days to Look Forward To
If you’re feeling a bit of a letdown now that the “big” holidays are over, there’s no reason to sink into the post-holiday blues. Here are some fun national holidays you can direct your festive, new-year-new-you energies towards!
Jan. 9: National Clean Your Desk Day - When was the last time you tidied your desk? A clean desk helps you focus, be more productive, and generally makes you feel good about your workspace.
Jan. 10: Poetry at Work Day - On this day, workers enjoy poetry as a means of relaxation and recreation while at work. Write your own poem or find one that resonates with you to hang at work.
Jan. 11: International Thank You Day - This is a day that serves as a reminder to express our gratitude to those who have made our lives better in some way. Who has been there for you? Go give them a call or text today and let them know!
Jan 12: National Hot Tea Day - Green, Grey, Earl, Chai, Jasmine, Oolong… Tea has grown to become the second most consumed beverage in the world, after water. This delicious blend of spices energizes, detoxifies, relaxes, and does so much more. Grab a cup of your favorite hot tea today and pinky out. Cheers!
Jan. 13: National Sticker Day - Just the word has a happy feel to it. And why wouldn’t it? We love stickers. Unleash your inner child and get creative with some stickers!
Jan. 14: National Vision Board Day - This day encourages us to set our goals in a visual way. Based on “seeing is believing,” the premise is that if we can imagine - or picture - something, we can move our lives towards that goal. Get started on working towards your goal by decorating your board with anything that will inspire you: pictures, favorite quotes, memorabilia, postcards, etc. Some people like hosting a vision board party to enjoy time with friends and support each other’s goals.
Jan. 15: National Bagel Day - Are you a sweet or savory bagel lover? No matter what you like, go out and get your favorite type of bagel to celebrate this yummy national day!
New Hire Spotlight
Kim Abdo
Kim Abdo, a new Behavioral Health Technician at Asana Recovery, has a personal history with addiction. She’s also no stranger to hard work. The 1996 Ms. Fitness Oklahoma winner, who set a state record in the Deadlift (305 pounds!) says that one of the things that makes her happy is “the feeling of working hard at the end of a day.” She also loves the satisfaction of personal accomplishment and animals, including her pomeranian named Prince.
Karsyn Wallace
Behavioral Health Technician Karsyn Wallace, is from Seattle, Washington, and – not surprisingly – she loves the rain. Living in a sunnier climate won’t limit her options for fun, however, because she also loves being outdoors, reading fiction, and the movie Grease.
A graduate of Chapman University (with degrees in Peace Studies and Documentary Film Production), Karsyn has another special skill: she can raise one eyebrow at a time!
Karsyn says she joined the Asana Recovery team because “I am very interested in addiction and the process of recovery. I like seeing how people can transform and create new and productive lives for themselves and for their families.”
Jasmine Wilder
Jasmine Wilder is a new Behavior Health Technician at Asana Recovery. In her free time, she loves to work out, play video games, research topics that interest her, and spend time with her nephews and nieces. She claims to be their favorite auntie, which might be because she likes cooking for them and taking care of them – when she’s not spending time with her cats.
With a bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine, Jasmine is working towards a Doctorate in Psychology and, not surprisingly, she loves to talk to other people and learn about their lives. She loves having a positive impact on others.
