Why do we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day?
The third Monday of January is a federal holiday each year in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Born on January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. was the face and voice of the Civil Rights Movement in the US and was instrumental in dismantling legal racism. We celebrate MLK Day to commemorate King's efforts toward racial equality.
Ways to Honor Martin Luther King Day
Make it a day of service - it’s a great reason to volunteer.
Learn about other cultures. Understanding and respect between races is the first step toward equality.
