Alumni Spotlight: Brittany Stroud-Schoelen
When I first came to rehab, I knew my life was going to change. I just didn't know it could be this good.
A More Meaningful Life
When Brittany Stroud-Schoelen completed Asana Recovery’s Costa Mesa program in January of 2022, she found (and created) a “way more meaningful life,” she says.
“I have accomplished every goal I had when I first got to treatment,” she explains. “I have no legal problems anymore. I have made friendships that will last the rest of my life.”
As a result of Brittany’s recovery and her efforts at strengthening family relationships, she now talks to both her parents every day. She says her family relationships are “better than they ever have been. I’m really blessed.”
Maintaining Long-Term Sobriety
To continue her recovery journey after leaving Asana Recovery, Brittany goes to meetings every week and spends her free time with others who are sober.
“The most important thing I learned about recovery is that sobriety takes a lot of work. And there is something I have to work at every single day to stay clean,” she says.
Brittany is fortunate because she also works in the recovery field, helping people get into treatment.
Having Fun - and Staying Sober
For Brittany, the biggest challenge to her sobriety, has been “learning to love some of my old friends from far away. I have really good friends that are still in their addiction. It’s hard because I miss them, but I know it's not safe for me to be around them,” she explains. “For the most part, I only associate with people in recovery.
Plus, there’s no shortage of fun in Brittany’s life. She enjoys going to the beach, going to the movies and trying out new restaurants. “There’s always something to do in California,” she says.
“Life is amazing right now. When I first came to rehab I knew my life was going to change. I just didn't know it could be this good.”
