Alumni News: Overcoming Addiction with Asana Recovery
Heather Hamilton's Story of Sobriety, Goals and Support
Spotlight on Recovery: Heather Hamilton
For Heather Hamilton, there are some striking differences between her sobriety efforts now and previous attempts at breaking out of her addiction. For starters, being in California – and far away from her friends and family – is a new experience, one that has forced her both to focus on herself completely and depend on herself.
Hand in hand with her separation from her home, is the support from Asana Recovery. That support is both her favorite aspect of the program and the thing that distinguishes this attempt at recovery from her earlier endeavors. “I was made to feel like family from the day that I first got here,” Heather says. “I actually feel as if you guys care. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have been able to make it this far.”
When Heather says “this far,” she’s referring to the seven months and ten days of recovery she has since she got sober on June 2, 2022. It’s no small feat – as anyone who has ever been addicted knows! Still, staying sober may be her most important goal, but it’s not her only goal. “My short-term and long-term goals have changed the most since getting sober,” says Heather, who will complete the Asana Recovery Inpatient Program at the end of the month. “I have a plan on completing them, not just setting them.”
